Is It Just Me?

Sarah Ann here.

Is it just me or do ice cream trucks stalk people? And do strangers always appear just when you need them most?

Let me explain. We just got back from our "practice trip" to Rhode Island. Last night when we got to our campsite, Rachel, Taylor, Christian, and I went to play at the park across the street while my parents set up the "pop." (Christian came up with that name for the pop-up camper.) We were putting on our pajamas when....

THE ICE CREAM TRUCK APPEARED. You have to understand this is a BIG deal because none of us kids had ever seen an ice cream truck before in our WHOLE ENTIRE lives. We all got ice cream.

The next morning, my mom and dad were trying to make the camper work. It wasn't cooperating. It was very stubborn. The fuses kept on breaking (I don't really know what that means but that's what they kept saying.) My dad bought a new battery. He thought that would fix it. It didn't. The guy in charge of the campground came and tried to figure out what was wrong. He was really nice but he couldn't fix it either. Finally, we gave up and decided to just go to the beach.

We hadn't gotten very far when our car got REALLY hot so my dad had to pull over into this little parking lot for boats. You'll never guess what happened next.....

THE ICE CREAM TRUCK APPEARED. Really. I'm not lying. So, we all got ice cream again while my dad tried to figure out what was wrong with the car. Christian got a Spiderman ice cream. It was really, reallly hot outside and he wasn't so good at licking a big popsicle. It melted all over the place - and made a big, big mess. My mom even had his ice cream on her toe and shoulder. We all got saved by a man who had this - cooler - or something I can't remember it's name - for the car that made it not so hot.

Ever after we had this cooler-stuff in, we had to stop every half mile on the way to the place where they were going to fix our car. At the car place, we were sitting in the shade of some people's trees. It was hot. Really hot. We wanted to go to the beach - but they said it would take a long time to fix the car because it was a BIG leak. Then, another stranger saved us. He drove us to the beach while my dad stayed with the car.

The beach was fun. My dad finally came with the car. Then we drove home safely with nothing at all more going wrong.

Remember in my other post when I said something always goes wrong? Now do you see what I mean?

We hope our real summer trip doesn't go anything like that practice trip. Well, except the ice cream part. I wouldn't mind if the ice cream truck ketp following us.

  1. Nice post Sarah Ann and nice adventure! Maybe the car wanted ice cream in the radiator instead of coolant? The Ice Cream sounds delicious. Can you send the Ice Cream truck to Oregon? And sunny weather too - it's currently raining and cold.

    1. I don't think I'll send the ice cream truck to Oregon, because I want the ice cream truck to follow me.

    1. Thanks. And guess what? I got ice cream today too! But it wasn't from an ice cream truck.

  3. One question. Did the ice cream truck play music or make any noise as it drove by? They do here in our neighborhood, but maybe not in Rhode Island. Glad to hear you had a safe trip home once your car was repaired.

    1. It did play music. We could hear it coming down the road.

  4. My kids would like being stalked by the ice cream truck, too, if they got ice cream every time. :) In reality, it would probably just remind them of what they couldn't have, and then they would be sad. So the ice cream truck is both good and bad. Good luck on your trip, and we will see you when you get to Madison.

    1. My mom says that maybe when we move to Madison you can come to our house and have ice cream - even if it's not from an ice cream truck.

  5. Sarah Ann, you will be happy to know that the ice cream truck has been known to stop in front of our house. I hope it does so when you are here!

    1. I hope it stops at your house when I'm there too! If not, the other things we're doing still sound fun.

  6. Sarah Ann, I think it was really cool that the ice cream truck got to see you twice. It is a shame that your car broke. I'm thankful that you could go to the beach. I hope your real trip isn't as bad as the practice one, but it would be nice to see the ice cream truck again. I'll see you soon!

    1. I'll let you know if I see the ice cream truck again on our trip. Right now our car is getting fixed. So, it probably won't break down again. At least we hope not.

I was close to your age the first time I saw an ice cream truck and I really liked it, too! We were visiting our cousins in Santa Monica, California, from Salt Lake City, Utah. Hope all goes well with your big trip.

  9. Sarah Ann, what a pleasant thought that strangers and ice cream trucks will appear at times when you need them to. Your big smile lets us know that you are enjoying the beach. See you in Park City.

  10. Stalking ice cream trucks don't sound all that bad! :)

  11. Yes ice cream trucks do seem to follow people around. At least the ones in Bakersfield frequently come around again and again. We've never bought anything because we always had yummy treats at home to eat. We would love to run across one on vacation.
